The Ultimate VA Success Guide: 4 Truths About The Most In Demand Virtual Assistant Services

The most in demand Virtual Assistant services are NOT admin-based anymore. The VA industry has evolved over the last five years and Digital Marketing has kicked admin services off the ‘most in demand Virtual Assistant services’ throne. This post will guide you through the why and what of offering services that will enable you to live your dream life.

Many people believe that being a VA means you do some sort of admin-type work which could not be further from the truth. The VA industry is incredibly diverse, similar to say the coaching industry. Some people think the coaching industry is either just life coaches, health coaches, or business coaches. In contrast, it has many different types of coaches. It’s diverse, just like our industry.

Even though the word is Assistant, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re an admin Virtual Assistant. You will find people who think that’s the case, so it’s an educational opportunity for you to say: “No. The VA industry is not just admin-based. It’s a diverse industry, full of different skillsets.”

Truth #1 About The Most In Demand Virtual Assistant Services: The Demand For Admin Services Is Declining

Now the majority of people who start their own VA business do so by offering admin services. There is still a need for admin but it’s no longer part of the most in demand Virtual Assistant services or skill set. My point is, you can start your VA business offering admin services and move into high-paying services as you learn them.

Admin services are on the low end of the pay scale and if you’re like me, I needed higher paying skills so I could quit my soul-sucking job. I started my business offering tech and project management services in order to replace my 6-figure income. The industry is evolving and moving away from needing admin help to needing help with the tech and systems that run their business and those are the most in demand Virtual Assistant services today.

Look Into Back-End Skills Instead

One of the reasons I started my business was to have the freedom to work when and where I want. If you’re like me then you might want to look into what I call “back-end” skills or services. These are some of the most in demand Virtual Assistant services you can offer on your own schedule from anywhere you have an internet connection.

Here are a few examples of “back-end” skills to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. (And yes, of course, all of these belong to the most in demand Virtual Assistant services):

  • Project management
  • Social media management
  • Branding
  • Graphic design
  • Anything tech-based
  • All things digital marketing

Truth #2 About The Most In Demand Virtual Assistant Services: Admin Services Pay Less

Many people overlook the VA Industry because they believe it’s just for admins but as I’ve mentioned that is not the case. There are so many opportunities for people with a variety of skill sets to start their own VA business such as:

  • Analysts
  • Human resource managers
  • Project managers
  • Graphic designers
  • Marketers
  • Programmers
  • And so many more…

For me there were a few reasons that I didn’t want to be an admin, I mentioned that they’re on the low end of the pay scale and they usually support their client’s which means you’re stuck in front of your computer during regular business hours. No thanks!

Truth #3 About The Most In Demand Virtual Assistant Services: Specialist Trumps Generalist

If you’re looking for ways to attract more clients and make more money you should focus on becoming a specialist. Specialists can easily ask for premium rates because they are viewed as an “expert” in a specific expertise.

Generalists on the other hand have a harder time asking for premium rates because they are good at a lot of things but not an expert in one. Not to mention being a generalist makes it much harder to explain what you do and how you help your clients which affects your marketing.

Admins generally fall into the generalist category unless they specialize in one or two specific admin services such as Customer Service or Calendar Management.
